Crossroads Celebrity Concert

Here are a few photos from the Crossroads Celebrity Concert I worked on last week at the Grand Ole Opry.  Collin Raye (country), Kallen Esperian (opera), and Lawrence Hamilton (Broadway), were the the three guest celebrity artists.  They are truly NICE people...what a joy to work with.   And they were SO great with the children.  The concert was absolutely WONDERFUL!!  Way to go Crossroads Children's Chorus!

Too Many Clothes

Does your closet look like this?  Do you feel overwhelmed?  Yes, you obviously need some organizational skills, but perhaps you just have too many clothes!  Most of the time we tend to wear the same few garments over and over again because we feel good in them and we know what to wear with them.  Below are a few tips to help you get more organized and better utilize the clothes you already have:

Photo from Huffington Post
1.  Remove everything from your closet and replace ONLY those things that make you feel fabulous and that are in season.  Store the other items elsewhere for now.

2.  Make a pile for any items that need repair or cleaning.  Don't put them back in the closet until they are ready to wear!!

3. There are many ways to organize your closet and lots of do-it-yourself kits to help you accomplish it. Personally, I organize my clothes by pants, skirts, jackets, dresses, etc. and then by color. But, pick a method that works best for you.  Hang suit pieces separately.

4.  The next step will require some time.  You will probably need to make this an ongoing project.  Take each item (pants, skirt, etc.) one at a time from your closet and try to make as many outfits from it as possible using the clothes you now have in the closet.  You should be able to make at least 3-4 outfits from each item.   Keep a detailed record of the items used to make the outfit, including accessories or take photos.  This will become a wonderful reference guide when you don't know what to wear.

5.  Make a list for future purchases of anything you need to complete an outfit.

6. Learn from your mistakes. Figure out why you don't wear the items that didn't make it back into the closet. Is it the size, color, style, personality of the item, or nothing to wear with it?

These are just a few suggestions to get you started.  Working with less clothes is much easier and you will be surprised how many different outfits you can create.  Just use your imagination and scan magazines and the net for inspiration.  It's not as hard as it looks; JUST DO IT!!

Crossroads Children's Chorus Festival

I'm in Nashville working on the Crossroads Children's Chorus Festival and Crossroads Celebrity Concert.  Each year top children's choirs from around the world come together to perform at the Grand Ole Opry House with celebrity artists from a variety of genres, accompanied by members of the Nashville Symphony.  This year the guest artists are country star, Collin Raye; Metropolitan opera singer, Kallen Esperian; and Broadway star, Lawrence Hamilton.   What a wonderful treat!!

Below is a photo from last year's concert.  I had a chance to work with country legend, Ronnie Milsap; Tony Award winner, Sutton Foster; and one of the famed Three Sorpranos, Kallen Esperian, who is back again this year.

If you are in Nashville on July 14...DON'T MISS THE CONCERT!!!

Photo Shoot - Job of the Photo Crew

How many times have we looked at a photo in a fashion magazine and admired the beautiful image and the glamorous model.  But we never think about the effort it takes to make that perfect photo we admire so much.  That glorious image is the work of many people...the photo crew...photographer, model, hairstylist, makeup artist, wardrobe stylist, and assistants.  Their job is neither easy, nor glamorous.  Here's a behind-the-scenes description of a photo shoot and the creation of "The Perfect Image."

Weeks/days prior to the shoot...the magazine/client and crew members will be busy...
Scheduling a date, searching through tons of portfolios to locate the crew members and perfect model for the look wanted and hoping everyone is available, having a planning meeting with crew to discuss the theme, location scouting and getting permission to use the property, shopping for days and sometimes weeks for the perfect clothes and accessories to depict the chosen theme, a wardrobe fitting, a trip to the beauty supply store for false lashes and hair extensions and who knows what else, follow up emails, checking the weather and coming up with plan B in case it rains...

The day of the shoot...
Several hours of hair, makeup and wardrobe, loading the car with cameras, lighting equipment, and clothes, driving to the location, wading through snake infested woods to get to that perfect field of flowers, changing wardrobe in the backseat of a car or nasty roadside gas station bathroom, making adjustments for clothes or shoes that are too big or too small, trying to keep the model from freezing/sweating to death shooting Spring clothes in the dead of Winter or Fall clothes in the scorching heat of Summer, constantly adjusting for changing light conditions, touching up hair and makeup, racing to catch the perfect sunset, going to plan B...it's raining!

But that's not the end of this story, unused clothes and accessories need to be returned to their respective stores, and the photographer spends hours and hours editing photos and getting them submitted.

Now you get the real picture.  So, next time you see a fashion photo that you so greatly admire...you will appreciate it that much more.
