50's Fashion Inspiration - Capri Pants

Among my favorite 50's fashion looks for summer are capri pants, also known as cropped pants.  Here are some inspiration photos.

To make them work for your body type, consider these tips.  Avoid capri's that hit at the largest part of the calf, especially if you are petite.  They should end at the smaller part of the leg. The most flattering capri's on everyone are those with a straight, slim (but not tight) leg.  If you have ample hips and a smaller bust, wear them with a loose top and choose ones in a solid, darker color.  Ballet flats or sandals are the perfect compliment, depending on the look you want.  The more dramatic personality may wear them with heels.

Late 1950's and Early 1960's Fashion Inspiration Photos

Lately, I've been watching a lot of old TV shows.  One of my favorites is The Dick Van Dyke Show.  It first aired in 1961.  I love Mary Tyler Moore's clothes!  So chic!!  It has renewed my interest in late 1950's and early 1960's fashion...great feminine shirtwaist, sheath and two-piece dresses, fitted sweaters with full skirts, and chunky sweaters with cigarette-style pants and flats.

Casual Spring/Summer Fashion Alternatives

OK, it's time to get on my soapbox again.  Last summer, as I did my daily browsing of fashion blogs, I was disappointed in the offerings of  cute summer apparel.  It seemed like 1/2 of the "what I wore" style blogs had nothing but short shorts...day after day...alternating with mini skirts/dresses.  Yes, some of the outfits were really cute and short shorts and minis are all the rage again this year.  But let's face it, the average woman just doesn't look good in them.  So what are some great alternatives for casual Spring/Summer fashion?  Try cargos, bermudas, capris, longer skirts, maxi dresses, jeans (rolled, loose, skinny, or flared)...lots of options for all body types and personalities.  So let's get creative!
