70's Fashion - Bow, Ascot, and Jabot Blouses

One 70's fashion trend that is so incredibly popular today is the bow, ascot, or jabot blouse.  Whatever form you choose, this great feminine look is extremely versatile.  Wear it to the office or with your jeans on the weekend. Below are some lovely and unique vintage options that are available at etsy.com.  Just click the link below the photo.

Maxi Dress - 60's and 70's Style

A popluar style that took front stage in the late 60's and 70's was the maxi dress.  I recently posted about the Gunne Sax "prairie look" that was so widespread.  But the maxi came in a variety of styles and fabrics.  There was something for everyone...long sleeve, halter, sleeveless, solid color, bold print, drapey polyester, homespun cotton, etc.  Below are some more examples of vintage maxi's.  All of them are for sale on etsy.com.   The first few photos are from a shoot I styled last year using a beautiful 70's maxi.   Photographer-Stephanie Moore, Hair and Makeup-Leslie Milne, Styling-Lisa Byrd Thomas, Model-Hannah of Elzemeyer Talent Agency

1960's Fashion Photographer - Melvin Sokolsky

Melvin Sokolsky, American photographer, is best known for his 1960's editoral fashion photos.  His most memorable was a series entitled "Bubbles" which appeared in Harper's Bazaar in 1963 and depicts fashion models floating in giant clear plastic bubbles over Paris.

High Waist Jeans - 70's Flare and Straight Leg Ankle Length

I'm glad to see the 70's high waist flare jean still around this Spring.  It is one of my favorite looks.  The same silhouette is also great for dress pants.  But, the hottest of all this season is the high waist, straight leg, ankle length jean.  (I'm talking straight, like cigarette pants, not skinny jeans.)  Besides denim, they also come in an abundance of bright and pastel colors.

Note the inward pleats... I personally like the flat front ones better.

Spring Fashions 2012

When Spring 2012 fashions hit the runway last Fall, I was greatly disappointed.  There were too many severe minimalist looks, sheer garments, and just plain ugly ones.  (It's OK to disagree with me!)  Here are some that I did like and would wear...flowing, feminine, and comfortable.

Love the dress, hate the makeup...but it IS runway isn't it?

50's 60's Fashion Photographer - John French

John French (1907-1966) was one of London's top fashion photographers of the 1950's and 60's.  These photos are great inspiration for a shoot I have coming up.  Hope you enjoy them.
