Finding the Perfect Fit

Today I read this great article (link below) from the New York Times entitled "One Size Fits Nobody."  I had to share it with you, because it is what I have been preaching about for years!  Designers need to make clothes that will fit real women and they need to make the sizing uniform for all U.S. clothing.

The article talks about the decades-old issue of fluctuating sizes and the frustration we face finding the perfect fit.  It also introduces an amazing new technology soon available in some shopping malls called "My Best Fit" which uses a full body scan to suggest which sizes of certain clothing brands will fit you best.  Take a minute to read the article and enjoy a self-esteem building moment!  The problem is not your body!!

A 70's Favorite Returns - The Wedge Sandal

One of my favorite pairs of shoes ever was a pair of 70's wooden platform wedge sandals.  I wore them until they fell apart, literally.  Then, I took them and had them repaired and wore them until they were beyond repair.  Here are some fun wedges under $50 I think you will enjoy.

The Perfect Summer Tee

Summers in the South are unbearably hot and humid.  I told myself this year I was NOT going to wear two or three layers of clothing under (or over) excessively revealing tops.  So, I set out to find the perfect tee...lightweight, inexpensive, stylish, versatile, loose, and ample.  I found these dolman sleeve beauties at Marshall's for only $12.99.  They come in three fabulous colorful prints.  I plan to buy all three if I can find them in my size!  They are perfect with jeans on the weekends or try them with dress pants and skirts for the office.

Great tribal print!  I wore this with a black drapey midi skirt, gold serpentine belt, and kitten heels to church and then later with jeans and ballet flats to a family get together.
Leave a comment and tell me about your perfect Summer tee and how you style it...

Note the hemline is longer in the back.  Fits great!

Midi Skirts

Once thought of as frumpy and matronly, the midi skirt has shown this season that it is definitely a stylish fashion alternative.  Whether A-line, dirndl, pleated, full or pencil, there is something for every body type, even the vertically challenged.  Proportion is the key.

We all know that almost anything looks good on a model.  But for the rest of us...here are a few tips on how to look marvelous in a midi: Not too much volume, especially at the hemline; lightweight and flowing is the most universally flattering; balance the skirt length with a substantial and interesting top (not too fitted, not too loose/baggy, and not too long).  Try adjusting the skirt length, viewing it in a full length mirror. Then hem to where it looks the best on you.  Heels/wedges are a must, unless you are tall and thin.

Thrifted Embellished Cardigan

I picked up this gorgeous embellished cardigan at a local thrift store.  The detailed pattern is made of silver metallic thread with beautiful beaded accents.  Note the great buttons!  This is one of the outfits I styled for a model portfolio shoot.
